EHI Research Information Technology
IT as central success factor in retailing
Whether at headquarters, in the warehouse or at the store – the use of information technology in logistics, merchandise management and marketing is the crucial factor today for successful retailing. However, the technology alone often does not produce the expected benefits. Closely connected with technological innovation is the need for optimising horizontal and vertical business processes. From the POS terminal to central merchandise management with its interfaces to the suppliers, EHI presents possibilities for technological innovation; EHI documents the acceptance of new solutions in the retail trade, deduces organisational requirements, and calculates the economic advantages. By participating in GS1 Germany (formerly Centrale für Coorganisation (CCG)), EHI exerts a major influence on the development of technical and organisational standards for optimising the flow of merchandise and information in the entire consumer goods industry.
